Each one is built from the major brands’ official sizing, cross-checked against the governing body rule where one exists, and dated so you can see when it was last verified. Where brands disagree, we publish the range rather than picking a number and hiding the conflict.

How to use these charts

Start with a measurement, not an age. Age is the least reliable input on every chart here — two 9-year-olds can be four inches and fifteen pounds apart, and every chart on this page will send them to different sizes. Take the measurement the chart asks for, then read across.

Second: check whether the item is safety-rated. Helmets, protective padding and life jackets have standards behind them (ASTM, NOCSAE, US Coast Guard), and for those a chart gets you close while an in-person fit check gets you right.

Third: if your child is between sizes, size up on clothing and outerwear, but not on equipment. A jacket one size large is a jacket they grow into. A bat or a helmet one size large is a bat they cannot swing and a helmet that does not protect.
